Atlantic Ocean and Equator

Obtain the grace of Neptune and stand "face to face" with him by taking part in the sailing tradition of sea baptism when crossing the Equator. Show courage and fortitude to prove that you are a true sailor, and maybe you will get the honor of meeting the beautiful consort of the god of seas and oceans - Proserpina.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A CRUISE THROUGH THE ATLANTIC OCEAN AND THE EQUATOR

During our cruise from Salvador to Cape Verde, we will cross the equator, where we will try to buy into the favors of Neptune. We will go through a real, traditional sea baptism, showing courage and fortitude, and those who meet the tasks will be given a sailing name by the very ruler of the Seas and Oceans and all waters on Earth.

SALVADOR CRUISES - CABO VERDE ARE NOT ONLY CRUISES THROUGH THE ATLANTIC OCEAN AND THE EQUATOR

We will visit Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago of islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is located about 350 km east of the Brazilian coast. Forming a commune of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. The 21 islands that make up the archipelago are a chain of underwater mountains that stretch for 10 km. The largest and only inhabited among them is Ilha de Fernando de Noronha,

You can meet there individuals of green turtles, which are huge – they are 1.5 m long and weigh 170 kg! And the little turtles hatching at night on de Leao Beach have no problems reaching the water, as there are no lights here except for the moonlight. A small number of tourists and inhabitants results in a clean, unspoiled nature and an abundance of fauna and flora.

There is only 7 km of asphalt road on Fernando de Noronha, and it runs from north to south. The rest are gravel roads. There is no crime on the islands, nobody locks houses and cars. Everyone knows each other and the newcomers are recognized right away.

The cruises across the Atlantic Ocean and the Equator also include the FERNANDO DE NORONHA OCEAN POOL.

At low tide, a natural swimming pool surrounded by rocks is formed by the beach. It is only 60 cm deep, but the other dimensions are about 150 x 50 m! Fish trapped for several hours create a beautiful sight. However, you cannot disturb them - splash and walk, let alone catch them. You also cannot use sunscreen if you want to swim with a mask and watch the life of these creatures. It is forbidden because the cosmetics are harmful to the animals.

CRUISES THROUGH THE ATLANTIC OCEAN AND THE EQUATOR IS ALSO CABO VERDE

Cape Verde islands, which, according to legend, were formed from pieces of earth shaken off by God after the completion of the creation of the world, which no one saw until 1454, when the Venetian sailor Alvise da Cadamosto discovered the archipelago.

First of all, we want to visit the island of Boa Vista, which has 60 km of pristine beaches. There is a beautiful snow-white sand beach near the abandoned settlement of Curral Velho, where we can see the shells of giant sea turtles. Females have taken a liking to this island for 110 million years, and once a year (from June to September) they come to lay at the full moon in pits of about 150 eggs each.

In the north of the island, from the Boa Esperenca beach, you can see the wrecks of sunken and wrecked ships in which there are so far unexplored treasures dating back to the 15th century colonization of the islands by the Portuguese. The most popular is the wreck of the Spanish cargo ship from 1986 – Cabo de Santa Maria, which transported gifts from Spain for Argentine and Brazilian friends. There were, among others, sports cars, food, medicines, machines, clothes. After 40 years of exposure to strong wind and waves, a rusty wreck is likely to be lost in the depths of the Atlantic. Nobody knows when.

The archipelago is inhabited by Kabowerdens, i.e. the Portuguese, who first came to the islands and colonized them, and the descendants of slaves brought to work. Time passes fairly quietly for them. The locals spend most of their free time talking in cafes, and the time spent on work is spent in the sea as the main source of income here is fishing. Unless someone has an allowance from another country :).

Cruises across the Atlantic Ocean and the Equator BEGIN OR END IN BRAZIL

It depends on whether we sail from south to north or from north to south, the cruise begins or ends in Salvador. The historical name is Sao Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos (Holy Savior of the Bay of All Saints). Until 1763, it was the capital of Brazil.

The biggest attraction of this city, for those who like to party, is the CARNIVAL. It’s called “THE GREATEST EXPLOSION OF JOY”. It lasts 6 days and nights, and many people think it is better than the one in Rio de Janeiro. It begins on Thursday evening before Ash Wednesday with the handing over of the keys to the city gates by the mayor, the king of carnival (Rei Momo).

Salvador also has many historic buildings, Mercado Modelo which is the largest handicraft market in the city (263 shops and stands in total), Farol da Barra, the oldest lighthouse in Brazil existing since the 17th century. And many others.
